Prattville History

Prattville has been the seat of Autauga County since 1868. The community owes its founding to the industrialist and architect Danial Pratt. Pratt founded his gin factory in 1838. He also played a significant role in building up the community and turning it into a manufacturing center.

The Pratt Gin Company later merged with other gin factories to form Continental Gin Company in 1899. In 1986, they merged with another cotton company to become the Continental Eagle Corporation. The company still produces cotton gins and is still headquartered in Prattville.
